What I would do
Build sidewalks. It sounds simple, but residents have heard excuses for years why these projects cannot be done. Well, the time for excuses is over and the time for action is now. The county cannot put a price on the safety of kids and residents.
Why this is important?
There are not enough sidewalks in our district. This hurts my heart as I see children walking in the road during rush-hour traffic to catch the school bus. Sometimes they either jump in the ditch or wait in the ditch to avoid being hit. This is unacceptable.
For example, Pullen Road needs more sidewalks. This is probably one of the worst areas in the district. Stone Road needs a sidewalk to protect children trying to catch the school bus.
These sidewalks would increase safety for all residents, not just kids. I drive on Pullen Road and Stone Road almost daily. When someone is in the road, I slow down and sometimes come to a complete stop. I wait until the lane with on-coming traffic is clear and avoid my neighbor. This is dangerous. What if the car behind me is not paying attention? What if this is at night and the driver does not see the person walking in the street?
