BRIDGING THE GAP

After-school care is a vital lifeline for several parents in Leon County. I want to make it even better. I propose developing a partnership between with local daycares and retired local teachers to help kids with their homework. This service would not be an additional cost for the daycare or parents. This would be a volunteer program from retired teachers.

This program would take place during the time schools drop off kids and parents picked them up. The teacher would assist if students have any questions about the day’s assignment, check homework completed, and even start smaller children on the basics of learning the English language and number system. 

There is no great gift in life to any person – child or adult – than the gift of education. I believe the earlier we start developing the brains of kids the more knowledge they will be able to understand at an earlier age. 

Growing up my mother preached the value of education. Now, I understand why she pushed me so hard to be a good student. I want to make sure kids in Leon County are not only performing adequately at school, but are over performing their expectations.
