What I would do
I would create a sub-department under the Office of Resource Stewardship called Roadside Trash Management. The sub-department would be responsible for picking up trash on the side of the road. This initiative would create approximately 75 jobs, 60 for cleanup members and 15 for supervisor and management positions.
Why this is important?
Trash on the side of the road continues to pile up. This unsightly collection of garbage is a nuisance in our community and is not good for the environment.
For example, the corner of Old Bainbridge Road and Portland Ave is littered with garbage that one resident said, “It’s been that way since I moved in. I moved in three years ago.”
There is no county agency responsible for cleaning up these items.
