It is safe to say the Centre for Tallahassee is not receiving the foot traffic it received when it was the Tallahassee Mall. With Florida Department of Children and Families taking over space in the complex, it appears a shift has been made away from commercial business and towards corporate business. We need to make this area more attractive to the community. A place we can look forward to visiting.
I propose we start a movement called First Wednesdays. On the first Wednesday of every month, we turn the parking lot into a street fair. We have food and clothing vendors setup to allow the community to get a taste of some of the best local restaurants, goods and services offered in Leon County. We would also have musical acts perform on stage to entertain the crowd. The vendors and musician would not have to pay to be a part of the event, just sign up. Additionally, parking would be free and there would be no charge for entry.
This would allow small businesses to showcase the items which make their business unique to the community. It would also give the community a chance to come together and meet new people.
